For more Outer Banks information...If traveling from the west (Rt. 64), be sure to stop by the Visitor's Bureau on Roanoke Island.
Traveling from the north (Rt. 158), the Visitors Bureau is located in Kitty Hawk on MP 1.

Norfolk Airport in Virginia, the closest to Bodie Island, is approximately 2 hours drive - 100 miles (RT 64 > Rt 168>158)

Raleigh Airport in North Carolina is approximately 3.5 hours drive - 200 miles (Rt 64 > 158)

Private planes may land on Manisiple airstrips in Manteo on Roanoke Island: 20 minutes drive (Rt 64 > Rt 158)

Billy Mitchel Airfield in Frisco, NC and Ocracoke Airfield in Ocracke, NC have 3,000 ft. runways and tie-downs. Use is limited to daylight hours. There are no services (fuel, hanger space, repair services, etc.).
